    Honey Game Hens (Paula Deen)

I just tried this Paula Deen recipe for Thanksgiving and it was a big success so I thought I would share it. I made this for just 4 hens and appreciated having extra marinade. It won’t be enough to cover all the hens in your bowl so I rotated the hens and kept them in the fridge past the hour. Given the ingredients for the sauce you can’t go wrong! I did find I had to heat it much longer than Deen says. Be sure to read the recipe entirely and plan ahead! Ingredients 1/2 cup honey 1/2 cup soy sauce 1 (1 inch) piece peeled and chopped ginger 4…

    Teriyaki Chicken Marinade

Here’s a super simple marinade that uses honey that is solid and delicious. Source here: 1/3 cup soy sauce (or tamari*) 1/3 cup rice wine vinegar 2 tablespoons honey 3 tablespoons peanut oil (or olive oil) 1 teaspoon sesame oil 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger Directions: Whisk together the ingredients for (one) marinade in a small bowl until combined. Combine marinade with chicken in a ziplock freezer bag, and toss until the chicken is evenly coated in the marinade.  Carefully press out any extra air that might be in the bag, then seal.  (You will need 1/2 cup marinade per 1 pound of chicken.)

    Double Crunch Honey Garlic Chicken

This one is a real winner.  I found for a pound of chicken I could reduce the egg wash by half, and the 8-spice dredge mix is good for another 1-2 batches – you’ll want to freeze and label it.  This recipe comes courtesy of Rock Recipes and Barry C Parsons and is heavenly.  When I threw out the extra sauce by accident someone must have been cutting onions nearby… Prep time: 15 minutes Cook time: 10-15 minutes Total time: Aprox 1/2 hour Yield: 4 servings Ingredients 4 large boneless skinless chicken breasts (I use a Costco tenderloin pack, little over a pound each, and I skip the flattening step…

    Honey Caramels

This recipe came from the Taste of Home website.  I omitted the walnuts when I made this.  The caramels are very viscous and will eventually melt together so paper between them is important.  You get a nice honey flavor on the front-end.  Recommend!! Ingredients 1 teaspoon plus 1/4 cup butter, divided 1 cup heavy whipping cream 1 cup honey 1/2 cup sugar 1 cup chopped walnuts 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Directions 1. Line a 8-in. square pan with foil; grease the foil with 1 teaspoon butter and set aside. 2. In a large heavy saucepan, combine the cream, honey, sugar and remaining butter. Cook and stir over medium-low heat until…

    Honey Roasted Shrimp

I made these.  And they were delicious.  Be careful on cooking time, some came out overdone. Courtesy Costco Connection, March 2017 and Kathie N. Lapcevic. 1/3 c Justman Honey 1/4 c soy sauce 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes, optional 2 garlic cloves, minced 1 lb raw shrimp Whisk together the honey, soy sauce, red pepper flakes and garlic.  Put the shrimp in a plastic bag.  Pour 3/4 of the sauce over the shrimp.  Reserve the remaining sauce in the refrigerator.  Marinate in the refrigerator at least 1 hour or up to 24 hours. Preheat oven to 450 F.  Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Remove the shrimp from the…

    Crock Pot Honey Garlic Chicken

This is a great looking recipe from Liz Wilks that I haven’t tried yet but it looks amazing. Homemade Marshmallows with Honey

I stumbled on this one myself when I was making homemade marshmallows using this Food.com recipe and found myself short on corn syrup. Remembering the chemical composition of honey and corn syrup are very close (which is why corn syrup is used to adulterate honey!) I replaced half of the corn syrup with raw honey. The result was a marshmallow with a nice honey flavor, especially at the end. Must try this! For fun we added some food coloring and got a nice purple marshmallow. 2 1/2 tbsp unflavored gelatin 1/2 c. cold water 1 1/2 c. granulated sugar 1/2 c. light corn syrup 1/2 c. Justman Honey 1/4 tsp.…

    Honey Buttercream Frosting

I found this recipe at the Cupcake Project here I used this frosting on the honey sugar cookies to give them a bit more sweetness. I find myself eating this frosting raw. The sour cream adds a wonderful flavor to it. Again, the honey flavor is subtle. Yield: Enough frosting to cover 12 cupcakes with a small swirl Ingredients 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature 2 cups powdered sugar 1/4 cup honey 1/4 cup full-fat sour cream Instructions In a medium-sized mixing bowl, beat butter for three minutes with an electric mixer on high speed until light and fluffy. Mix in powdered sugar a little bit at a time until…

    Honey Sugar Cookies

I found this recipe on Bakingblonde’s webblog here and decided to try it out. I found these to be very delicious and they do seem to stay moist longer due to honey’s hydroscopic properties. The honey flavor is subtle – very nice. Give them a try! I also took her advice and applied some with a honey buttercream frosting (recipe also posted). 1/2 cup butter, softened 1/2 cup honey 1/4 cup sugar 1 1/2 cups flour 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/8 tsp. salt 1 cup sugar (for rolling) Preheat oven to 300. Line baking sheets with parchment paper. In a mixing bowl combine flour, soda, and salt. Cream together the…
